Watcher Chronicles from DVD

Each episodes of Highlander: The Series DVD-BOX have the Watcher Chronicles as one of the Bonus Features. I pick up Methos related ones. This is from Archangel.

Duncan MacLeod – by Joe Dawson

I guess I’m a bad Watcher. I still can’t find the words to help me deal with what’s happened, much less put them down on paper in a formal report. And it seems that words are all I’m gonna have to help me get through this. Methos isn’t answering his phone. And needless to say, MacLeod’s disappeared. I’m not surprised. After his dark rages when Little Deer was murdered, he lived alone on Holy Ground for a decade before seeking human company again. He tried to put as much distance between him and his murderous wrath Culloden as he could by heading east across Europe and Asia. Even in the grip of the Dark Quickening, his first instinct was to set sail for Europe. That explains why he’s doing what he’s doing now, but it sure as hell doesn’t explain why what happened happened. When we finally find him, I doubt there’ll be any excuse in the world that will explain the murder of Richie Ryan away.

Methos – by Amy Zoll

It’s my sad duty to place Methos on the Missing List once again. It’s been more than a month since we’ve had a hit on him, it’s obvious he’s slipped out of Paris to parts unknown. We’ll institute the standard protocols, but as he’s quite familiar with all of them, it could be a while before we find him again. At least this time, we’ve got those I.D. photos to work from.

Richard Ryan by Claire Bailey

Maybe it would have been better for Richie if he’d just stayed out on the road, taking heads, being tough, making a name for himself. Isn’t being evil better than being dead? Twice before MacLeod had tried to take his head, and twice Richie forgave him and trusted him with his life again. The third time there was no chance for forgiveness. Richie Ryan was a good man, a forgiving man — and maybe I just answered my own question. I think maybe the good heart and the kind soul Richie had would rather die than be corrupted by evil. That was one lesson Richie has MacLeod to thank for — what a shame it wasn’t a lesson that MacLeod had learned for himself. A lot of cultures believe that a person’s spirit is still alive as long as there’s someone alive who still remembers them. Then Richie will live forever, because Duncan MacLeod is never going to forget what he did that day to a man who trusted him beyond all reason.

ダンカン・マクラウド by ジョー・ドーソン

俺は悪いウォッチャーだ。俺はいまだにあの出来事を言葉にして正式な報告書を作成できずにいる。それでも言葉だけがこれを乗り越えるための全てかもしれない。メソスは電話に出ようとしない。いうまでもなく、マクラウドは姿を消した。驚きはしない。リトル・ディアが殺害されたとき、あいつは怒りを抱えてただ独り聖地で暮らし、再び人々と交流するまで10年もかかった。カロデンの戦いに対する報復の殺戮のあとは、ヨーロッパからアジアへと東に向かうことでできるだけ距離を置こうとした。ダーク・クィックニングに取り込まれた時でさえ、あいつの本能的な反応はヨーロッパに向かうことだった。それは、今あいつが行っていることの裏付けにはなるが、なぜあれが起こってしまったのか、その理由を説明するものではない。あいつを見つけたとしても、リッチー・ライアンを殺してしまったことの言い訳は出てこないだろう。

メソス by エイミー・ゾル

悲しいことだが、メソスを再び行方不明リストに載せなければならない。私たちが彼の姿を最後に確認してから1ヶ月以上経っており、彼がすでにパリを出ているのは明らかだ。私たちはこのような場合の通常手順に則って行動を起こすつもりだが、彼はこれら全てに精通しており、再び彼を見つけるまでしばらく時間がかかるかもしれない。今回は少なくとも、私たちには手掛かりとなる彼の身分証明写真がある。

メソス、再び行方不明リストに載る。ウォッチャーの手の内を知るメソスだけに、再度見つけるのは困難、とエイミー・ゾル博士。少なくとも手がかりとして、ID写真は残っているのだけれど。

リチャード・ライアン by クレア・ベイリー

リッチーにとっては、首を刎ねたり強くなったり、自分の名を挙げたりするためにどこかよそに行っていた方が良かっただろう。死ぬことに比べれば悪者になるほうがよかったのでは? マクラウドに2度殺されかけたリッチーは、2度とも彼を許し、人生をかけて彼を信じた。しかし、3度目には許しを与える機会はなかった。リッチー・ライアンは許すことを知っている善良な人間だった — そしておそらく、私は私自身の疑問に答えを見つけたようだ。私はリッチーの善良な心と優しい魂は、邪悪に染まるよりも死を選ぶのではないかと思う。マクラウドはリッチーが与えたその教訓に感謝するだろう — 彼が自分自身でその教訓を得られなかったのが残念でならない。多くの文化において、人の霊はそのひとを覚えている者がいる限り生き続けると信じられている。ならば、リッチーも永遠に生き続けることだろう — なぜなら、自分を信じてくれていた男に対するあの日の不条理な行いを、ダンカン・マクラウドは決して忘れないだろうからだ。
